Kil-Kare Raceway Park
Xenia, Ohio

The 7th Annual DENT Super Modified National Championship Demolition Derby took place at the spectacular Kil-Kare Raceway Park in Xenia, Ohio.

The sold out capacity crowd was treated to another amazing National Championship Demolition Derby featuring over 130 champion drivers from across the USA and Canada. The competition took place on asphalt in the country's toughest demolition derby.

It seemed the evening was going to be a night for Mad Dogs when the flag dropped for the beginning of Heat 1. So many of the drivers wanted the Mad Dog Award but there is always a couple in each heat that just hit that much harder than the rest, but they all put on a spectacular show. Heat 1 had Deron Pugh from Ohio and Ron Neitzel from Kansas and Scott "The Xenia Bad Boy in a very close 3rd. Heat 2 had Matthew Isaacs from Ohio and P.J. Mitchell from Ohio. Heat 3 had Mike Tosco from Ohio and from Canada, Chris Hill 2003 Eastern Region Mad Dog Winner found himself with another Mad Dog Award making him one of the few with more than 1 Mad Dog Awards.

The real story of the night was the ending with Toby Highley from Dayton, Ohio who finished 3rd Place at the 2002 National, then 2nd Place at the 2003 National, and was attempting to do something no demolition derby driver had ever done. He was going for the win and he succeeded. The victory for Toby came after banging it out with former 2003 DENT National Champ Larry Sittloh and top 3 new comer Pat Browder. The crowd waited in anticipation after Toby made his last hit on Pat Browder and then his car died. Pat Browder was then successful in getting his car started and made his way around to hit Toby for the win, but that is where it ended. Just 10 feet away from Toby Highley the destroyed car of Pat Browder died and the checkered flag was waved making the historic moment one the crowd will never forget.

Toby Highley has now earned the name of the 2004 DENT Super Modified National Champion. He took home the coveted Franklin-Root Award, the gold DENT Championship Ring and $10,000 of the $20,000 guaranteed purse.

During the intermission between the 3rd Heat and the Final Feature, DENT hosted a 30-car $2,000 purse Pro Modified Class "Smash-Off". These up and coming drivers gave the crowd what they came to see. It was viscous and exciting. First time DENT runner Emery Martin from Kentucky and 2003 Eastern Region Mad Dog Stacey Evans from Ohio pounded their way into the hearts of the Kil-Kare Raceway fans earning the ever-prestigious Mad Dog Awards.

The Winner for the Central Region Pro Modified Smash-Off was Brad Tinkham from Ohio. Brad finished 3rd overall in 2003 Central Pro Modified Smash-Off and came back this year to take it all.
